I recently had a client who was struggling with the cost of sending their monthly newsletter through one of the big-name email marketing companies on the web due to their monthly cost surpassing $1000. I did a little research and was able to find them a much cheaper (and just as legitimate) solution for sending a newsletter to well over 100,000 subscribers for only $62 per month!
Sendy.co offers an easy-to-use, self-hosted email campaign application. They have teamed up with Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) to provide mass email delivery (newsletters, thank yous, notices, etc.) at a very low price while still retaining top-notch tracking, deliverability, and user control.
In short, there are five main steps:
- Purchase a Sendy software license for $59 (one-time fee, transferable)
- Purchase an EasySendy hosting plan for $19, $49, or $99 per month
- Connect your Sendy License with your new EasySendy server
- Create and activate your Amazon SES account (cost of $0.10 per 1000 messages)
- Start sending newsletters!
How does it work?
Sendy offers an application in which to create your newsletter, but you have to host the application. In contrast, with one of the big-name companies you would simply create an account on their website, log in, and create your newsletter. With Sendy, the extra step is to purchase web hosting space as if you were building a website. For all intents and purposes, the Sendy application is your very own website whose sole purpose is to let you create newsletters.
How do I host the Sendy application?
There are basically two options for hosting Sendy. The first choice is provided by EasySendy.com who makes it extremely easy to get started. Hosting plans on one of their dedicated servers starts at $19 per month for up to 100,000 subscribers, and increases to either $49 or $99 per month based on the size of your subscriber list. Sendy will come pre-installed on your new dedicates server, and off you go!
The second option is for the more tech savvy. Sendy can be downloaded after purchase, then uploaded to a web hosting space of your choice (GoDaddy, HostGator, Bluehost, etc.), just as you would a WordPress site, Drupal site, or your own web site made from scratch. Remember, Sendy is simply your own website to use for sending email! This option might save a few bucks for those with large (100,000+) subscriber lists as the hosting will need to be configured on one’s own to make sure that all of Sendy’s features work correctly.
How much does it actually cost?
Here is a basic cost example for a 130,000 subscriber list:
|Sendy Software License||$59 (one-time fee)|
That’s it! You can already see how much money is saved by switching to Sendy (sorry, this is not a Geico ad, nor am I getting paid to say this!).
Sendy is a fantastic option for mass-email campaigns, and is definitely worth looking into no matter what the size of your subscriber list may be.
